The client

Murder She Wrote is a bookstore and community for people who like their romance dark, messy and a little taboo.

Built around the belief that dark romance deserves to be seen, read and celebrated, the brand brings readers, authors, creators and publishers together around the stories mainstream shelves can overlook or misunderstand.

And the ambition goes well beyond selling books, with a book club, events and future physical spaces all part of the plan.

The brief

Dark romance has a fiercely loyal audience, but it also comes with a side of judgement, stigma and tired assumptions.

Murder She Wrote wanted to position the brand as the home of the genre. A place where readers could indulge without shame, authors could find their audience, creators could fuel discovery and publishers could get closer to demand.

We were brought in to build the foundations from scratch across brand strategy, verbal identity and visual identity, creating something distinctive enough to cut through and flexible enough to grow across retail, community and events.

The impact

Murder She Wrote launched with a complete brand system bringing strategy, verbal identity and visual identity together in one deliciously obsessive package.

The team now has a clear positioning, verbal and visual brand codes, and a toolkit designed to stay recognisable as the business grows across online retail, events, book club and future physical spaces.

Most importantly, the brand gives dark romance a place that feels entirely its own.
